What is meant by B2C Web Portal and its recent extension in the term

In the last post we have learn't what is meant by B2b web portal and about its end users. In this post we are going to see what is meant by B2C web portal and its recent extension in the term. To better understand both this terms, let me clarify the basic difference between them.

B2B can also be defined as Business to Business. Normally transactions between two business units are referred as B2B. When you are involved in B2B marketing, it means that you own a business and you want to sell you products or services to some another business, instead of selling them to the end user.

B2C can be defined as Business to Consumer. A transaction between a business unit and its end users are referred to as B2C. For example: A Local store near your house is involved in B2C transactions. Basically these shops by their basic shopping websites offer their products and service to the consumers nearby or can extend to their network of service.

Normally B2C transaction appears once after the completion of B2B transaction. For Example: A person buying a pair of shoes from a retailer can be referred as B2C transaction. Apart from this the transactions that led to the shoes being available for purchase, that is the purchase of the leather, laces, rubber, etc as well as the sale of the shoe from the shoemaker to the retailer would be considered as a B2B transactions. Hope by the time you have the clear idea about the basic difference between B2B and B2C transactions.

When we talk about B2C e-commerce, I should talk about Amazon, the online bookseller that launched its site in late 1995 soon become one of the nation’s largest retailers. As time passes apart from online retailers, B2C has grown to include services such as online banking, travel services, online auctions, health information and real estate sites. Even Craiglist too fall under the category of B2C. Looking to this ongoing trend, In October 2010, an extension of B2C, i.e. B21 was coined. As B2C includes all manners of a business marketing or selling to consumers, B21 is specifically targeted towards an individual. B21 requires specific Personalization for that individual. It requires an insight in order to create the personalized experience. In the Next coming post we will look more about B21 and what it is meant for.
